A garden fence is a practical way to have some privacy and gives structure to your garden. A fence allows you to give your garden a bit of personality and style to an outdoor space.

If you’re looking to gain some inspiration about how to revamp your fencing then read on:

With the colder days closing, it's time to get one more project finished. It’s time to spruce up your fences before the new year with creative designs and unique ideas for fencing that will help your garden look more interesting.

Flower Beds

When you think of fencing you think of the big panels that border your garden. Well, there are many other ways you can use fencing and it comes in all shapes and sizes. Many gardens have flower beds in them.

So why not style them out by putting a small border around it made of wooden blocks or sleepers? This stylish and unique way of fencing your flower beds will help protect them from damage and also give your garden layers to help make it stand out.

Adding Levels

A lovely privacy fence idea is to opt for a levelled design that allows you to plant a raised bed in the fence itself. This makes your fence feel more like a feature in your garden and visually breaks up the solid wall. This is also a nice way to zone your garden and add extra privacy to a specific area like a patio or deck

When installing a multiple levelled fence it is likely to be much taller than regular panels to increase your privacy To stop a towering fence totally overwhelming a small garden, firstly keep the design very simple, the narrow vertical slats are the perfect example When painting or choosing the type of wood either opt for a pale wood or paint your fence in a subtle light hue.

Bamboo Fencing

Bamboo fencing allows you to include fencing in different parts of your garden to help border certain parts of your garden. Bamboo fencing is also useful for covering your old plan fence panel with something lighter and unique. Bamboo fencing is becoming a lot more affordable. You can buy it as panels or rolls meaning it can fit in any garden.

Outdoor bamboo fence panels have minimal see-through and provide the most privacy for a garden. They are easy to attach to each other with wooden fence posts. Bamboo can be used anywhere in the garden and is very low maintenance. Bamboo is a natural material that is long-lasting and more durable than any other timber product.

 Recycled Pallet Fence

The wooden pallet can be one of the best-recycled materials from which to build a DIY garden fence. Pallets can be found for pennies (or free) and they have a rustic, yet modern design depending on the type of garden fence you create. This design of fence made from palettes gives your backyard's landscape a modern and sophisticated feel.

To add colour to your yard, Painted pallets are great for bringing that modern rustic mix.  Before painting pallets, you'll need to prep them. Sand off the splinters and snags, fill in nail holes and as many imperfections as you'd like. Doing this is important to make sure your pallets last for the longest time. If stained and treated correctly they can last around 20 years which is great for your garden.

A Textured Design

For a fence that really blends into the garden, pick a design that has a natural shape to it. You don’t often find neat lines in nature, so for a fence that feels part of the garden keep your panel’s different sizes and overlap them to add texture. Adding different lengths and sizes help keep it unique.

Modern Garden Furniture

Blend the bottom of the fence into the garden with a border filled with plants of various sizes and textures. Add in some climbers too, to blend the fence and add height so extra privacy too. It will make the garden feel more open rather than having a big straight wall surrounding you.

Light Up The Garden

As we get closer to winter the night becomes darker sooner. Having some light in your garden will allow you to use the space all the time. There are many different ways you could have lighting in your garden from string lights in the trees to strip lights under your decking.  Good outdoor lighting can really enhance your garden or outdoor space, giving it a wonderful ambience as well as practical illumination for important areas.

The best way to decide where to put the light is to walk around your garden at night. Think about areas you need to light at night, like a pathway and your front door, and areas you will want to use in the evening, such as an eating area. This will help include the correct lighting around the outside of your home.
