Composite Fencing: Is It Right For Your Garden?

Composite fencing is the modern fencing solution that is designed to be used for any outdoor space, with its modular structure and component-based installation.

When it comes to installing a new fence in your garden there are plenty of options to choose from. Gone are the days of the traditional wooden fence, often taking shape in the form of thin timber panels - which can require regular staining and painting, are prone to wind damage - and can look untidy if not properly maintained.

In 2024 composite Fencing will begin to take over in all modern and contemporary gardens and has become a great alternative to traditional timber fencing. Composites are a long-life, low-maintenance alternative to traditional wooden alternatives. Suitable for all outdoor applications, our composites come in a range of natural colours.

Made using 95% recycled materials, and with up to a 25-year guarantee.

 Types of Composite Fencing

At Hillsborough Fencing we have 4 different variations of hill fence composite fencing. The fencing is a modular system, with each post being able to accept up to 3 panels, allowing for straight runs, 90-degree angles or a T-section.

All our fencing is built to last. The additional post inserts or post strengtheners can be slotted into the modular post and cover unused slots if required, adding additional strength for exposed or wind-affected areas.

Our 4 current options include.

  1. HillFence Wood Plastic Composite Fencing which is available in either Stone Grey or Black.

Composite Fencing Positives

There are many reasons to install a composite fence in your garden. Some of them are fairly obvious but there are some positives to composite fencing that may surprise you.

1. Very Low Maintenance

Composite fencing is exceptionally low-maintenance, demanding minimal care throughout its lifespan. In contrast, alternative materials like wood need extensive efforts in sealing, treating, staining, and painting every year.

Unlike traditional options, composite fencing eliminates the need for these labour-intensive tasks. Periodic cleaning is the sole requirement to preserve its optimal appearance.

Once installed, The inherent quality of the material ensures that it essentially maintains itself, allowing you to enjoy its benefits without the hassle of constant care.

2. Strength & Durability

Thanks to the plastic component in composite fencing materials, the fence panels show remarkable water resistance. Unlike conventional wooden fence panels, the core of composite fencing panels remains protected from water damage, preventing the formation of rot.

Composite fence panels eliminate the need for repairs and boast a significantly extended lifespan compared to their wood counterparts. On average, composite fencing can endure for an impressive 25 to 30 years.

To underscore the durability and reliability, all the composite fence panels in our range are backed by a substantial 20-year warranty, providing you with peace of mind regarding the long-term performance of your composite fencing.

3. Eco-Friendly

Not only is Composite fencing made from recycled materials, but the longevity of the fence far outperforms any 100% wood version. This means fewer replacement fence panels will be needed, resulting in fewer trees needing to be cut down for replacements.

So, if you’ve got an eco-conscious mind and want to do your part in helping the environment, we believe composite fencing is a great solution for you. The lack of needed chemicals to preserve your fencing means your garden is safer for your family pets and local wildlife.

Composite Fencing negatives

With so many benefits to composite fencing, there must be a catch, right?

The only minor negative to buying Composite Fencing is the Cost.

While it's true that composite fencing can be slightly more expensive than traditional wood options, opting for a cheaper wood fence may seem appealing initially. However, it's crucial to factor in the longevity of your fence when assessing long-term cost-effectiveness.

Consider the value of investing a little more upfront in composite fencing, which, due to its durability, will outlast traditional wood alternatives. In the long run, you might find yourself replacing a conventional fence two or even three times before needing a new composite fence, making the initial investment worthwhile.
