Need some rope for your garden but haven’t a clue where to start?
We’ve got you covered.
Decking rope can be a simple yet effective way to make your space all the more homely. It’s a chance to add texture, section off areas in an attractive manner, or even make small spaces appear larger. But how do we find a balance between a rope that will look great and one that is also suitable for the job?
Which Rope Is Best For Decking?
Manila Rope
While most people go for hardy hemp, manila rope can also be used for decking. Hardy hemp is synthetic, but manila is completely natural, meaning it’s more eco-friendly and biodegradable.
Many people like Manila because its rustic appearance blends nicely into their garden. It shares its name with the capital city of the Philippines because this is where the abacá trees grow and the rope is made from their leaves. They give the rope its dark brown colouring and rough texture.
Key features:
1. Made from natural materials
2. Easy to splice
3. Rustic appearance
4. Resistant to salt-water damage
5. Holds knots well
Polyhemp Rope
Polyhemp rope has the look and feel of a natural fibre rope. Unlike natural fibre ropes, it is weatherproof and doesn't shrink when it gets wet, making it ideal for outside use. Garden decking posts, barrier ropes, kids play areas, tug of war ropes, climbing ropes and general use ropes.
It is strong and durable and does not rot. Polyhemp is also popular with boating enthusiasts where its common uses include fender ropes, mooring ropes or even rigging lines on traditional boats
Key features:
1. Feels Soft, smooth and slightly fuzzy surface
2. Very lightweight, easy to grip & pliable
3. Does not absorb water. Does not shrink or swell
4. Holds knots well
5. Easy to splice
What Else Do I Need?
It's advisable to allocate some time for planning the presentation or securement of your rope. Whether it's intended to encircle a fence or requires additional attachments, careful consideration is key.
At Ropelocker, we offer a range of fittings designed for decking ropes, including hooks and cup ends. You have the option to order them independently alongside your rope purchase, or we can professionally attach them for you. If you prefer the latter, simply reach out to us with a message.
We'll coordinate with you to determine specific details such as the desired droop length and guide you through the measurement process. Your satisfaction is our priority, and we are here to assist you in achieving the ideal setup for your needs.
Brackets
Brackets present a neat solution for affixing your decking rope to fencing or other fixtures. Typically, a soft eye, as illustrated in the left image, is spliced into the rope's end. This attachment method ensures security while permitting movement. It's important to note that the rope's size correlates with the eye's thickness, resulting in a chunkier eye for larger ropes.
Rope Cups
Another favoured choice for decking rope installation is rope cups. These cups are firmly secured with screws drilled through the rope. Concealing the screw beneath the cup yields a polished appearance. However, once the cups are fixed in place, they cannot be adjusted. Therefore, precise measurements are crucial.
If uncertain about placement, it's advisable to order the rope and cups separately for self-installation upon arrival. Alternatively, our team is available to handle the attachment process upon request.
Ring Plates
Our four-hole ring plates offer versatility akin to brackets. They can be affixed to the rope using an eye, as depicted in the first image. Alternatively, rather than positioning them solely at each end, you may opt for the rope to thread through multiple ring plates. This method is popular for draping rope across fencing and is often complemented with a man knot for a visually appealing finish.
Hooks
Utilising a hook at the rope's end can effectively demarcate areas in your garden without appearing overly imposing. For a sleek finish, pair your hook with one of our eye plates.
Trigger Clips
For enhanced security while maintaining mobility, trigger clips offer a reliable solution. They provide a more secure fastening than hooks alone, ensuring your barrier remains steadfast yet adaptable.
Enhance your outdoor space with our range of versatile fixing options, tailored to meet your specific needs and preferences. Whether you prefer the simplicity of brackets or the versatility of ring plates, we're here to assist you in creating the perfect setup for your decking rope.
A decking rope serves a dual purpose: it can serve as a functional barrier or lend a touch of texture to your decking area, enhancing its visual appeal.
If you're considering partitioning your decking or various sections of your garden, garden decking rope emerges as an excellent solution. Whether it's delineating flower beds, defining distinct seating areas, or outlining garden paths, decking rope not only elevates aesthetics but also imbues your garden with a cosy ambience.
